On Thursday, September 28, 2017, citizens in the Smith Bay neighborhood stated that they heard the sound of gunshots in the area at approximately 2:00 a.m. The citizens stated that at approximately 8:00 a.m., they discovered the lifeless body of a black male in the backyard of a residence. The male was identified as twenty-one (21) year old KYJUAN NAUGHTON, who was a member of the Virgin Islands National Guard and was on St. Thomas to assist in the recovery after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

On Sunday, February 24, 2019, at around 7:04pm the 911 Emergency Call Center received calls from several concern citizens in the Davis Hamilton Jackson Terrace Housing Community also known as “Red Brick” reporting seeing the occupant(s) of a white Chevy Malibu Sedan shooting at unknown individuals who were running in the vicinity of Building 2. When VIPD Police officers arrived to the scene, they discovered two individuals injured by gunfire. A male individual sustained a minor injury and was treated at the JFL Hospital and released. The female sustained injuries to the lower torso and the leg which severed a major artery. The female victim was airlifted later that evening to the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Florida.
